The general requirements are light color, odorless, non-toxic, low volatility and high chemical stability. Sulfonated oil, high carbon fatty acid emulsion and silicone oil can be used for textiles to reduce their rough hand feel and make them plump. Animal oil (such as butter and fish oil), vegetable oil (such as castor oil), petroleum products (such as spindle oil, paraffin and asphalt), sulfonated oil (such as sulfonated fish oil and sulfonated castor oil), and products extracted from birch bark tar and oil can be used for leather to make it soft and plump and reduce its moisture absorption. Glycerin can be used for paper to increase the kneading of softness. Some paper fillers such as clay also have the function of softener.
Softener is an assistant used to improve the processability and service performance of rubber. It can increase the plasticity of rubber, reduce the viscosity and mixing temperature of rubber, improve the dispersion and mixing, and improve the tensile strength, elongation and wear resistance of vulcanizate. The functions of softeners and plasticizers are generally similar, except that plasticizers are prepared by chemical synthesis and are mainly used in resins and plastics, while softeners are mostly derived from natural substances and almost all are used in rubber.
Softener is a foam additive with softening and hard effect at the dosage of high chemical foaming agent. At the same time, the amount of isocyanate and foam hardness can be achieved simultaneously. They are basically used in low index formulations, which are soluble in water, and can be used in the formulation with more water and less foaming agents or completely abolished the physical foaming agent to obtain the required foam hardness.
